Rusty Wessel is the honorary son of Ross Socolof (according to Ross Socolof and Jodi Socolof). He was a frequent companion on Ross's jungle expeditions. We hope to feature news from Rusty from time to time.
Rusty in Guatemala
Just last week Juan Miguel Artigas Azas, Melo Salazar, Jaime Emmanuel Rodriguez, and myself embarked on a long trip to Guatemala. The first few days we explored the area around Lake Peten and then moved south to Lake Izabal. We visited many of the same places that Ross Socolof and Harry Specht went to back in 70s, 80s, and 90s. Although much has changed in Guatemala over the years, there are still so many things that are exactly the same. It seemed everywhere we went a memory of Ross would magically appear. His legacy to explore and his lust for life in general seems to continue to shine in my own life. I thank him for taking me on those early trips in the late 80s and 90s.
